Clarington

2020

What was once a small farming community containing only a number of small villages and hamlet; Clarington has been shaped into a municipality full of renovations, energy and industry scattered between the plots of shrinking farmland. Over the the course of a few weeks in early summer of 2020 I explored the municipality searching for evidence of urbanization in this constantly changing community. Starting with the major impactors; OPG, Saint Mary’s Cement and Darlington Power Plant, I began noticing new subdivisions, stores and roads being constructed on the plots of land which use to be used for agriculture. Within these images I attempt to display the clash of big business, economic growth, and city expansion, with the contrasting view of the small farmers fields and nature preserves that once ruled this area.
